MTN Nigeria has empowered 100 women from the Police Officers Wives’ Association (POWA), Lagos State chapter, with the provision of mobile stalls to sell products such as airtime and data through the use of digital gadgets.
At the commissioning ceremony, Lagos State Commissioner of Environment, who was represented by the General Manager, Lagos State Parks and Gardens, Bilikiss Adebiyi- Abiola, said: “We are glad that MTN is making conscious effort to give back to the community and also beautify Lagos through the renovation of the POWA Shopping Complex Corridor here in Ikoyi and we are glad that Lagos State is gradually becoming a greener and healthier environment.”
Also speaking at the event, Sales and Distribution Executive, MTN Nigeria, Adekunle Adebiyi, said; “We’re really excited to unveil the new POWA corridor as this project has been a long time coming. We’d like to thank the Ministry of Environment for giving us the approval and opportunity to do this. We’re also excited to have impacted the lives of members of POWA.”
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of empowerment materials, which include phones, PoS devices, chairs, tables, umbrellas and digital tablets to the beneficiaries and the commissioning of the renovated POWA secretariat.
Meanwhile, MTNF has trained 500 youths on ICT and business skills in Oyo state. The two-day intensive training by technology experts equipped participants to succeed in Nigeria’s evolving business landscape.
A statement from the Foundation noted that the session which was held at the University of Ibadan, had dignitaries like the Special Adviser on ICT to the Governor of Oyo, Mr. Niyi Ajao; Head of Digital Communications, Oyo State Government, Babajide Fadoju, and Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu present.
The training was organised by MTN in collaboration with its ecosystem partners, notably KPMG, Digital Bridge Institute (DBI); IBM and Oracle, the statement added.
