Armyspokesman, Col. Sagir Musa,in a statement,late yesterday, explained thatthe “pre-planned attackoccurredin between Charles and Bob-Manuel’s compounds inAbonnema Townat about1:00pm on the 23rd February 2019.”
It said preliminary investigationshowedthat the attackon the troops by the armed politicalthugs, was mastermindedby ” one Roland Sekibo, – the ChairmanAkukuToru LGA, Omodo– the CSOAkuku Toru LGA and Kenneth of Kula currentlyatlarge were the masterminds of the unexpected/ unprovoked attack.”

Thestatementread:”Information reaching HeadquartersNigerian Army(NA) revealedthat troops of 6 Division on alegitimate duty of protectinglives and properties of lawabiding citizensand ensuringaconduciveenvironment for peaceful conduct of 2019GeneralElectionsin Abonnema, AkukuToru LocalGovernment Area (LGA) Rivers State were attackedby some hoodlums.

Theattackersbarricaded a major roadinto the town and laidan ambushinthe adjoining built-up areasfromwherethey opened fire on our unsuspectingtroopswhen theyattempted to removethe barricade.
“The gallant troopsfought theirway through the siegeand inthe processkilled six of the assailants. However, we losta lieutenantinthe encounter.
